Incorporated in 1880, this town was a transportation terminal for those going north or south as well as east or west. Both the Denver South Park & Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande railroads had facilities here. In its heyday, Nathrop had three saloons, two grocery stores, two pool halls, a bowling alley and a hotel. The schoolhouse, built in 1881, can be easily seen from Hwy 285.
